lyrics

It comes in the winter,
dug in like a pinewood splinter.
It's hard to remember having peace of mind.
Then, without warning,
here comes Christmas morning,
surrounded by smiles while yours is hard to find.

You can recall when the snow was a place to explore
in your hand-me-down boots with a sled.
Now, you just can't find the door
'cause you keep getting lost getting out of your head.

Merrily we'll hum along
to all the same old Christmas songs,
and we'll pretend there's nothing wrong;
it's Christmas, after all.

We'll hang the lights in pretty lines
and sing about our Auld Lang Syne,
and we'll pretend we're doing fine;
it's Christmas, after all.

You got older,
the snow felt a little colder.
The blankets are warm and comfort's hard to find.

Dancing visions
won't help with indecision
when all that you want for Christmas is strength of mind.

So you hit the closet and put on your best green and red,
put the greeting cards up on the shelf,
'cause you know it's all in your head
and these hundreds of Christmas lights won't hang themselves.
